The Kiebitzer See is today a local recreation area, fishing area and renaturation area in one. The lake was created by the local quarrying of gravel from 1922. The lake is surrounded by large pine and mixed forests, such as the Schweinert nature reserve, which contains one of the largest burial mounds from the Bronze Age in Europe.

The freely accessible lake is surrounded by meadows, fields, pine and deciduous forests and has a high water quality with its 70 hectares of water. The recreation area has a 1.35 km long bathing beach with guarded and unguarded sections of the beach. These include an integrated swimming camp and a nudist bathing area. A giant slide in the separate area for non-swimmers ensures great fun for the little ones. A modern glamping village, two bungalow settlements and a campsite with 150 pitches make a longer holiday by the lake possible. A snack bar with a beer garden and an ice cream parlor can be found on the beach promenade; guests can use WiFi on the campsite.
