A magnificent view from above

Saalfeld train station is very bicycle-friendly, with ramps and elevators to all platforms. There is a bakery with a café, a newsstand, a ticket machine, and several vending machines selling drinks and snacks. From Saalfeld train station, there are direct connections to: *Nuremberg by RE or IC train *Blankenstein by RB train via Bad Lobenstein *Erfurt by RB train via Arnstadt *Halle by RB train *Jena by RE and RB train *Leipzig and Gera by RE and RB train all have bicycle parking spaces. A bicycle ticket is only required for the route to Nuremberg; otherwise, bicycle transport is free. Well-signposted cycle paths lead from the train station: *The Saale Cycle Path upstream to Hof *The Saale Cycle Path downstream to Rudolstadt and Jena *The Saale-Orla Cycle Path to Triptis *The Schwarza Cycle Path to Bad Blankenburg

The Eisenberg is a must for me when I hike here. The Eisenberg always looks clean and well-kept. It is also one of the few mountains with a cross.

The tower was repaired by RSB and has been open again since December 2023.

Always a worthwhile hike. It's a shame that the observation tower is still not open after almost a year.

Very nice view of the valley, great rest area and summit cross.
