Hovdala Castle is a historic castle with origins dating back to the 11th century. The current castle is a well-preserved cultural site famous for its role in 17th-century conflicts, with bullet holes still visible in its gate tower. Today, the castle is a popular visitor destination with a beautiful park, gardens, and a network of hiking trails in the surrounding Hovdala Nature Area.

On the hiking trail around Lake Finjasjön, you'll repeatedly come across small sandy beaches, like this one. In the summer months, they're also used as swimming spots.

This stretch of the shore of Lake Finjasjön (Sjön means lake in Swedish) is also known as the Gold Coast. The shore here is sandy and adorned with several old, sometimes very mighty trees. There are also several picnic tables that invite you to stop at this idyllic spot.

This picnic table is a great place to stop for a longer rest on a hike. Since there are no trees obscuring the view, the view is very beautiful.

The castle is more than 500 years old; the oldest building dates back to 1511. The complex is open year-round and admission is free.
