7月 1, 2025, Brückentor Traben-Trarbach
The Bridge Gate of Traben-Trarbach on the Moselle River is the town's landmark and stands on the southern bank of the Moselle Bridge. Designed by Bruno Möhring as a decorative bridge closure, it has housed a café-restaurant since its construction. In the 1960s, a renovation added a gallery with temporary exhibitions. The Calmont is a prominent peak on the Moselle. The highest elevation is 380 meters high. Interestingly, the Calmont summit cross is not at the highest point, but below it. This may be because the Calmont is a ridge above the Moselle. The location of the summit cross offers a prominent view of the Moselle - better than from the highest point. Therefore, the summit cross makes much more sense at this point. Source: https://www.calmont-klettersteig-moselschleife.de/calmont/

The Calmont via ferrata is more of a mountain trail than a via ferrata. Passages of the "via ferrata" are made safer with handrails, ladders, step bars and stepping pins. However, hikers who are not sure-footed also have the option of bypassing the short section of the "via ferrata".

Zell (Mosel) is a town in the Zeller Hamm (Mosel loop) and is located in the district of Cochem-Zell in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is the administrative seat of the Verbandsgemeinde of Zell, to which it also belongs. Zell is a state-recognized resort and, according to state planning, is a medium-sized center

I find the atmosphere in the Moselle towns to be calming and cosy.

The district of Traben is to the left of the Moselle at the foot of the former fortress Mont Royal and Trarbach to the right of the river on the Hunsrück side. The two parts of the city are connected by a bridge. While Traben lies on a large width on the banks of the Moselle, Trarbach stretches oblong between the rather steep mountains, especially into the Kautenbach valley. There is a spring in the Bad Wildstein district, the water of which emerges from the depths of the slate at a temperature of 33 ° and is used by a thermal bath.

Welcome to Calmont (hot mountain), the steepest vineyard in Europe, where the queen of the vines grows, the classy, fine Riesling, produced in clean air by hand. Grown under the most favorable climatic conditions using an optimal angle of inclination to the sun & shaped by slate rich in essential minerals. Riesling, slate, sun - they shape the Calmont wine. This naturally produced specialty should be tasted at the winegrowers who grow here. Numerous hiking trails and also the via ferrata lead through the Calmont. Here you can enjoy wonderful views of the crystal, glittering Moselle, the winding Moselle valley, the Eifel and the Hunsrück. Rare animals such as the green lizard, wall lizard, smooth snake, Apollo butterfly, sail butterfly and zippammer can be found here. Peregrine falcon, buzzard and red kite circle in the sky. Rare plants such as blue lettuce, houseleek, wine rose, golden aster, rock gold star and boxwood have their habitat here. The Calmont was formed in the Devonian Age 400 million years ago. Excavations on the Calmont show that man lived here more than 2000 years ago and that viticulture was very important. Source: Text information board

description Adventure in the steepest vineyard in Europe. The path leads over ladders past striking rock spurs. Steel ropes give you support when crossing a rock ridge. Enjoy the wonderful panorama between the towns of Bremm and Ediger-Eller with a view of the Stuben monastery ruins on the narrowest and most beautiful bend in the Moselle. The highlight and insider tip at the same time is the CALMONT via ferrata, which leads you with partly alpine challenges between Eller and Bremm at an altitude of 200 to 300 meters above the Moselle across the steepest vineyards in Europe. There are great challenges for hiking and climbing enthusiasts. The CALMONT via ferrata was built in 2002 as a joint project by the municipalities of Bremm, Ediger-Eller and Neef. The German Alpine Association has secured the route with steel ropes, ladders and numerous step stirrups and pins, so that a safe ascent and descent is guaranteed. For hiking and climbing tours in the CALMONT REGION you need sturdy shoes, a head for heights and a good physical condition. There are rest and viewing huts in many places along the way. On hot summer days, a hiking tour in the morning or early evening is recommended! Sufficient mineral water and a hat should not be missing in the backpack! In an emergency, dial 112 and give the call number (there are numbers where the Monorackbahn crosses the via ferrata, these are used by the rescuers for orientation in an emergency). As part of the small series "Wienpahl wandert", SWR television showed a 30-minute episode about the via ferrata on Bremmer Calmont. In 1898, what still belongs together came together: the famous Berliner Bruno Möhring designed the bridge between the communities of Traben and Trarbach, which were independent until 1904. Those were the golden days of viticulture. At that time, the ruble rolled in the famous wine trading city. As can still be seen today, winegrowers and traders had elaborate Art Nouveau villas built on the banks of the Moselle by the talented master builder and colleagues. A richly decorated bridge gate was also used to crown the new bridge. The original arched bridge was blown up in 1945 and later replaced by an unspectacular functional bridge. But the Trarbach bridge gate with the grape reliefs and the life-size dancing winegrower couple remained intact. Today it houses a café-restaurant, as well as a gallery and is considered a symbol of the small town. This bridge gate is to Traben-Trarbach what the glass dome of the Reichstag is to Berlin.
