Three castles on three humps of a ridge above the city of Annweiler in the Palatinate: the Trifels Group. Advancing from the Rhine into the Palatinate Forest, one of the first thing that immediately catches the eye is the Trifels Imperial Castle. In the 12th and 13th centuries it was one of the most important sites of Salian-Hohenstaufen rule over the Holy Roman Empire.
