Very nice castle complex. There is also a small restaurant inside and outside very nice. Magnificent views from the terrace and from the tower. Very interesting events in the castle courtyard in summer.

Three castles on three humps of a ridge above the city of Annweiler in the Palatinate: the Trifels Group. Advancing from the Rhine into the Palatinate Forest, one of the first thing that immediately catches the eye is the Trifels Imperial Castle. In the 12th and 13th centuries it was one of the most important sites of Salian-Hohenstaufen rule over the Holy Roman Empire. Built from sandstone, it sits enthroned on a rocky reef, whose wildly jagged, vertically sloping tip dominates the forest on the 500-meter-high Sonnenberg.

The former castle was more or less destroyed. But then it was reconstructed again. Information boards or e.g. Replicas of the Reichskleinodien give the visitor a good impression!

Great atmosphere, nice view, good Palatine food as well as classics and daily specials, delicious cakes and tarte flambée from the separate bakery, enough shady spots but also a lot in the sun. Everywhere interesting corners to discover, with a free small museum on the ascent to the lookout tower ... one of our favorite castles in the Palatinate Forest 😊

Starting point of the Three Castles hike: On the castle path from the castle Landeck above Klingenmünster first to the ruin Schlössel. Continue up to the Ringwall Heidenschuh. Then to the Martinsturm, with a good view far over the Palatinate Forest, before it goes down to the White Rock, a nice rest area. Then back to the starting point for Burg Landeck.

"Thanks" of the chairlift is often busy here. On a nice weekend you will rarely get a table on the terrace of the restaurant. Above the restaurant on the ruins but you always have the opportunity to enjoy the view.
