Unfortunately it is only a ruin, but thanks to some information boards you can get a good overview of where exactly what used to be. The special thing about this castle is that it actually had two outer baileys. The western and the eastern outer bailey. In the area of the former western outer bailey there is now a war memorial. In the area of the former eastern outer bailey there is an open area with a few benches.

The Naumburg is an early allodial possession of the Raugrafs, built to provide access to the Raugraf's possessions on the Alsenz from the Nahe. The namesake of the castle and the village of Frauenberg is one of the most colorful female figures of the Middle Ages and proof that women have always played a decisive role in shaping our country's history. Loretta came from the Salm family of counts, wealthy in the Vosges Mountains near Strasbourg, which also maintains dynastic connections in the Luxembourg and Hunsrück regions to this day. In early 1315, not yet 20 years old, she married the much older Count Henry II of Sponheim Starkenburg. Henry died in 1323, and Loretta moved with her three sons to Starkenburg Castle near Trarbach. Loretta was now responsible for managing the county's affairs as guardian of her son, John III, who was probably only eight years old. This castle protruded like a thorn into the Electorate of Trier and threatened to endanger the possessions along the Moselle and around Koblenz. Archbishop Baldwin ruled in Trier. As an elector and brother of an emperor, he was one of the most powerful men in the empire and now considered the time had come to expand his holdings by occupying Sponheim's estates against a supposedly weak woman. The Naumburg is one of the older castles in the Naheland and is likely to have existed during the 11th and 12th centuries. century by a member of the so-called "Emichons". Naumburg was first mentioned in a document by an Archbishop of Mainz in 1146. In this document, a witness named Emicho describes himself as Count von der "Nauweburc" (New Castle). Little is known about the existence of this former castle in the area where the Bärenbach flows into the Nahe. After the castle fell into disrepair in the first half of the 19th century, nature largely covered the remaining remains with its lush vegetation. After various exposure and safety measures from 1986, the ruins can be seen and walked on again. The destruction of Naumburg around 200 years ago was the consequence of political and social changes that also took place in the vicinity in the wake of the French Revolution of 1789. The Naumburg, most recently the administrative seat of an Oberamt, shared the fate of Schloss Dhaun. Both castles were first declared French state property and then put up for auction. As an object of speculation for future use and exploitation, the Naumburg became a kind of wholesaler for building materials, which some residents of the surrounding villages gladly used to build their houses and barns. With the demolition of this residential and administrative palace down to the foundation walls, the more than 600-year existence of Naumburg came to an end. Below the castle was the castle house, which is mentioned in several medieval documents. It was probably destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. In a forest map by geometer Werner from 1759, the castle house is only faintly marked, probably because it was already a ruin at the time.

𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗵𝗮𝘂𝘀 The "Burghaus im Tal zu Frauenberg", located directly on the Ellenbach, was mentioned in many documents. In 1347, Gottfried von Spohnheim, the youngest son of Countess Loretta von Sponheim-Starkenburg and in his capacity the progenitor of the Lords of Allenbach, received the castle house as a fief. He was allowed to defend himself against anyone. In the document, a "Gezelin" is named as the previous owner, which suggests that it was built by the Cistercian order. The ruins may be Ellinbagh Castle, mentioned in a document from 1265. Source: text information board
