3月 19, 2024, Mithras Cave (Heidenkapelle) on Halberg
For me this is one of the sensations in Saarbrücken! The cave and the recesses created later are still in great condition. There is also a bench under a ledge. If only it weren't for the car noise (like it was 2,000 years ago). "In pre-Christian and Roman times, a Mithraic cult was practiced on the Halberg - by the Gallo-Romans who lived here or the Roman soldiers of the nearby garrison. For this purpose, they created a barrel-vaulted mithraeum in the sandstone on the western slope of the Halberg, which is known in older literature as the "Heidenkapelle " is called. After Christianization in the 6th century, the grotto was incorporated into Christian worship. This means that the Halberg is possibly the oldest Christian place of worship in the region. The remains of this site can still be admired here and are in a relatively well-preserved condition." https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halberg_(Saarland)

From the platform that was placed on the ruins a few years ago, you can see as far as the Donersberg when the weather is nice.

2月 12, 2023, Schloss Luisenthal and Chapel (Gutenbrunnen)
The old chapel is a beautiful photo motif. It is open, but is empty. Two stone slabs and candles stand where there is usually an altar

Duke Gustav Samuel Leopold of Palatinate-Zweibrücken built the Luisenthal palace with palace chapel in the Gutenbrunnen valley from 1723. On May 13, 1723 he married Luise Dorothea, Countess von Hoffmann (1700-1745), the daughter of the heir to the Gutenbrunnen and master huntsman Johann Heinrich Hoffmann. He gave her the entire Wörschweiler ban as a gift: "... the Gutenbrunn and Schwarzenackerhof together with the nearby Swiss factory and dairy, as well as the brick and glass works not only ad dies vitae [for life], but the right of inheritance with the condition that to Subsistence of a Catholic priest, who would like to serve the chapel we built on the Gutenbrunn in honor of St. Walburgis, should pay 100 guilders every year so that Holy Mass can be said there at least 3 times a week".

1月 13, 2022, Saarbrücken Castle
After the death of Friedrich Ludwig von Nassau-Saarbrücken in 1728, the possessions fell back to the usingic branch of the house of Nassau. In 1735, Princess Charlotte Amalie von Nassau-Usingen, née von Nassau-Dillenburg, divided the hereditary lands among her sons. The elder Karl received the Nassau lands on the right bank of the Rhine, the younger Wilhelm Heinrich those on the left bank of the Rhine. When Charlotte Amalie's sons took over the government in 1741, the architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel from Zerbst was commissioned to draw up an appraisal of the structural condition of the Saarbrücken Castle. The archive documents provide further information on a plan on January 26, 1739 for a new building. The change in the princely way of life, the abandonment of military construction functions, the more cosmopolitan attitude and the desire for a freer form of investment with outdoor courtyards and gardens as well as the will to a more comfortable, more magnificent design and a refined living culture are justified
