Very scenic serpentine route on the K42, good surface (as of August 2025) and very little traffic with many possible combinations to other ascents/descents around the Ottenstein plateau.

Make sure you have cash with you, otherwise you won't be able to cross the Weser and will first have to follow the main road towards Hehle, where you can cross a bridge to the other side.

A dream downhill through the forest!

You can reach the ferry in Grohnde through this beautiful gatehouse. You can take the cable ferry across the Weser.

Lügde, also known as the "city of Easter bikes", begins the uphill on a small, unpatched asphalt road (Schildweg). Halfway up, you cross the state border between North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony without noticing. Before Großenberg, you have to negotiate a serpentine, which marks the steeper part of the entire route. There is little car traffic. On the downhill, you only brake at the serpentine, then it goes down in a long arc to Lügde.

A short stop for a nice picture is not a bad idea :)
