Great cave... as I later discovered on a sign, as big as a beer mat, away from the cave... reserved for bats in the winter months... the sign could be better positioned

The cave was named after the Muggendorf doctor Dr. Adolf Schauwienold, who discovered it in 1905.

At the far end is a small crawlspace that probably doesn't lead any further, if the cave guide who has just instructed his group is to be believed. Please note the bat protection period from October to May! During this time, entry is prohibited.

If you want to illuminate them with tea lights, you should take a whole bag with you. And a rubbish bag: for the burned-out little lights. Attention, it is slightly slippery on the greasy stones... Have fun!!

The swing gate is actually two imposing rock gates that are at right angles to each other and can be easily visited on a small circular path.

Caves are a sensitive habitat (not just in winter!) for species that can only live here, in the dark. This includes a special species of spider that hangs its nests on the cave ceiling; tiny springtails and water fleas live in the water basins. If you trample through their habitat, they disappear.
