The King Theodore Trail is integrated into a popular circular hiking route that starts at Neuenhof Water Castle and offers a varied route through the Elspe Valley. It was named after Theodor von Neuhoff, an ancestor of the lords of Neuenhof Castle, who was briefly King of Corsica in the 18th century and ultimately died penniless and in poverty in a London prison.

The highlight image shows the memorial to the Hunswinkel Labor Education Camp (AEL) from World War II, which was built for the construction of the Verse Dam. Germans, Jews, and Soviet forced laborers were housed here and later executed in the final days of the war. The AEL now lies at the bottom of the Verse Dam.
