The two-story gallery Dutchman on the Großefehn Canal was built in 1804. The three milling courses were mainly used to process buckwheat, as this was a main crop of the fen colonies. Around 1900, a test facility for generating electricity was installed. The mill was in operation until 1968 and is still fully functional today.
