Laurenburg Castle, built around 1090 by Count Dudo von Laurenburg from the House of Nassau, is a hilltop castle at a height of 179 meters above Laurenburg Castle. Now it is a ruin. Laurenburg Castle was built around 1700 by the princes of Anhalt-Bernberg-Schaumburg-Hoym as a summer residence. In 1975 it became a curative education and nursing home.

The wonderful half-timbered house with great wood carvings was built between 1607 and 1609 as the Adelsheimer Hof and was used as the town hall in 1912. St. John's Church was rebuilt after the fire. A church tower bell from 1480 was preserved. A bronze flute player by the artist Helmut Bourger sits in front of the church. The city palace from around 1300 was the seat of the Imperial Knights of Stein. A famous descendant was the Prussian reform minister Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein. The castle was expanded from 1621 to 1816 with a main house and an octagonal tower.

Laurenburg Castle was first mentioned in 1093. The ancestral home of the Nassau family, where the ancestors of the Dutch royal family and the Grand Dukes of Luxembourg come from.

The keep has been expanded, is inhabited at times and is not open to the public!
