Elsfleth is a small, nice town on the Hunte. Fish is sold at the harbor on Sundays. If you want to go to the other side of the Hunte, you have to use the drawbridge about 1km further north. But this only happens on the hour.

The Vareler Schleuse (Wilhelm-Kammann-Schleuse) is a sluice lock and can only be opened when there is a tie between the outside and inland water. General lockages take place from April to October between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. if there is also high water at this time. Very inviting place to take a rest. There is plenty of seating and there is also a toilet. The food looks fresh and delicious. A rest is worthwhile.
