Teufelsgrund near Wehlen Between Uttewalder Grund and Wehlen, a path to the right leads to Teufelsgrund. This detour turns out to be a little adventure as you walk through the sinister Herring Cave and climb through the Teufelskammer (Devil's Chamber). It's especially fun for children! The entrance to the Teufelsgrund is easy to find, you follow the narrow path over hard-packed sand, which is interspersed with polished sandstone chunks and tree roots. The rock walls come ever closer and can be examined more closely. In addition to the omnipresent slanting layers of the Elbe sandstone, you can take a closer look at the structures from the honeycomb weathering.

Between the towns of Wehlen and Uttewalde lies the wild, romantic Uttewalder Grund, which is pleasantly cool even in summer. The Uttewalder Grund is a side valley of the Wehlener Grund, which in turn opens up into the Elbe breakthrough valley.

Deeply cut valleys run through the sandstone of the Upper Saxon Switzerland. There is an almost mystical atmosphere in them.

The Teufelsgrund with its branching gorges and around 30 native ferns is one of the most species-rich valleys in the German low mountain ranges. Together with the Heringshöhle, this wild and romantic area offers a lot of interesting things to discover.

Wehlen is a rural town in Saxon Switzerland. It is located on the railway line from Dresden to Prague and in the middle of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, making it the starting point for hikes to destinations such as the Bastei, the Rathen Rock Stage, the Bärensteine and Rauenstein, as well as the Wehlener and Uttewalder Grund.
