The "four-arched stone bridge, 1st half of the 18th century" was declared a monument zone in 1985 together with the monastery complex under the name "Monastery Marienstatt southwest of Streithausen". See: https://www.kuladig.de/Object-View/KLD-290380

The famous trade route, the Cologne-Leipzig Road, once ran over this historic monastery bridge. Coming from Altenkirchen, the route led from Kroppach through a ford across the Nister River near Heuzert to Marienstatt Monastery and then on to Kirburg.

If I look at the past pictures in this highlight, then you become aware of the climate and the damage of German forests. Currently (08/22) the view from the Trödelsteine is still wonderful, but mainly of bare plains and slopes. A very sad picture with great views from the basalt stone mountain.

The highlight of the slate mine is the possibility of accessing a tunnel at a depth of 20 meters. The mine has served as a supplier of roofing slate tiles for the Marienstatt Monastery and the Hachenburg Castle since the Middle Ages. Forgotten and discovered by chance in an old document, the mine was found and restored after a 17-year search. The mine is located directly on the Westerwaldsteig and can be visited all year round.

In the Assberg slate mine you can learn a lot about slate mining in Kroppacher Switzerland. Among other things, a tour at a depth of 20 meters is possible. But I don't want to reveal more. ;)
