From the cycle path, you can catch a glimpse of the beautiful Ummendorf natural lake. Those who wish to rest can do so here on a small bench with a view of the lake.

Today I was served a wonderful Swabian Dennete in the middle of the castle courtyard. Very friendly, dedicated staff, a very pleasant atmosphere! - The castle tavern is currently (September 2025) open on weekends. Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Ayweiher, located on the eastern edge of the former pond staircase, is the only one of the six ponds in the Hofen area that has survived thanks to its favorable topographical location. Not only the Aybach stream flows into it, but also the outflow of the abundant springs located adjacent to it on the northern slope. This spring horizon likely favored the early establishment of settlements above the Aybach valley floor. Below the ruined Streitberg Castle, the Aybach has its greatest natural gradient in the area of a terrace, which could have been considerably increased by a dam and the damming of the stream. Thus, the Ayweiher must have been created long before the imperial city and monastic efforts in the area of the upper Aybach, initially for purely energy-saving reasons, to supply the necessary water for the mill belonging to Streitberg Castle. The Ayweiher was first documented in 1230 and is thus one of the oldest surviving ponds in the Biberach district. Until 1903, the Aymühle mill was powered by an overshot wooden wheel (water-supplied from above); after a fire, a turbine was installed. The former mill was converted into a modern apartment building. The modern Fischerstüble restaurant, with its large beer garden by the pond, invites you to stop by.
