The renovation in 2014 further emphasized this simple character of the church. However, the greatest treasure of the church is not its architectural features, but rather the people who visit it. It spans the Oste lowland in the area of a historic ford at the same location. The first permanent bridge connection at this location was built in 1984, the so-called "Heidjer Bridge". Due to the poor structural condition and the first bridge structure, the municipality of Heeslingen and the city of Zeven built a joint replacement construction in 2023. For this purpose, they received grants to promote integrated rural development (ZILE) from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.
