I don't understand why the summit isn't included in the Lahn hiking trail. Plan a detour/replan!

There is a segregation plan for the Dünsberg with legally designated trails and hiking trails. Please note the signs.

Gleiberg Castle is a must and is a highlight of the hike: Here the tower with its 149 steps is open and we experience one of the most amazing 360 degree panoramic views on the Lahn hiking trail, admittedly the weather should be right: just a few clouds so that the sky isn't so boringly blue and little haze. The two castles Vetzberg and Gleiberg are such beautiful photo models, the Dünsberg keeps forcing its way into the picture and I can't stop taking photos. It's hard to believe that both castles are the same height at 310 and 308 meters, but the Gleiberg view + ruins are unbeatable.

There is a lot to see / to find on the Königstuhl - an interesting mountain with Celts, burial mounds and a volcanic vent rest on top. It is therefore worth planning the summit on the Lahnwanderweg.

The Altenberg is a place with history. Around 1321, the Counts of Solms built Alt-Hohensolms Castle here, which was intended to secure their dominion against the neighboring Königsberg Castle. In 1323 the complex was first mentioned in a document. It remains unclear whether a settlement already belonged to the castle at that time. Alt-Hohensolms Castle only existed for about 30 years, as military conflicts between the people of Solms and the imperial city of Wetzlar led to the first storming in 1328 and to its final destruction in 1349. A decree issued by Emperor Charles IV prohibited the reconstruction of the castle. However, the Counts of Solms knew how to circumvent this order by simply switching to Ramsberg, about 2 km further north. There they built Hohensolms Castle, which still exists today, in 1350. The former location has since been known only as the old mountain (Altenberg). The walls of the castle are now in ruins. However, the scarcely explored remains of a double ring wall and deep ditches can still be seen on the slopes of the Altenberg. Today, the hilltop is crowned by an observation tower, which was probably built in the middle of the 19th century using stones from the former castle. Gleiberg Castle, located on a striking 308 m high basalt cone, is the landmark of the Gleiberg region that can be seen from afar and is a popular tourist destination. Information about the castle can be found here: https://www.burg-gleiberg.de/ The castle and observation tower were open on a Monday, admission was free. The view from above is worth it!

On the Himberg you will find a striking rock formation - the Königstuhl. This is considered an old Celtic place of power. It forms the summit of the mountain and can be found in the immediate vicinity of the Sternschanze, a historical fortress.
