The Begutenweiher, created shortly after the Second World War by gravel quarrying, is located between Friesenheim and the Notwende-Melm development area.

Great view over the castle complex. Bikes are not allowed in the park, but it's worth it, as is a guided tour of the castle.

Nicolas de Pigage built the garden mosque with its central building, two minarets and prayer corridors between 1779 and 1795. In addition to William Chambers' garden mosque in Kew Gardens in London, the models for this extraordinary garden architecture were primarily designs by Johann Fischer von Erlach. The combination of Western and Oriental architectural language is fascinating. Baroque domes, pointed arch windows and round arch arcades can be found next to minarets, pavilions and crescents. As the last surviving one of its kind from the 18th century, the garden mosque in Schwetzingen is a unique testimony to the interest in the Arab world that prevailed at the time. However, since the building was not built for the practice of a religion, it primarily represents the tolerance of the enlightened builder Carl Theodor.
