In the middle of the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve lies the idyllic and car-free heath town of Wilsede, which visitors can only reach on foot, by bike or in a horse-drawn carriage. With its old thatched houses and sheepfolds as well as the heath museum "Dat ole Huus", the historic place resembles a living museum village. At 169.2 m, the Wilseder Berg directly near Wilsede is the highest elevation in the northwest German plain. The Totengrund, located approx. 1 km south of Wilsede, offers a wonderful view. A particularly attractive section of the Heidschnuckenweg leads through the wild and romantic hell gorge up to the mountain. The Höllenschlucht is an exciting dry valley in the forest that is ideal for a short hike to the Brunsberg. Also ideal for scavenger hunts with children. You hike through more or more sparse pine and mixed deciduous forests to the foot of the mountain, so that most of them are shaded and pleasantly cool even on hot summer days.

There is a heavily musked forest above the Höllenschlucht. This is as romantic as the Hell Gorge.

At 129 meters above sea level, the second highest elevation in the Lüneburg Heath with good paths, great views and plenty of seating. There is also a parking lot nearby.
