It was built around 1400 by the Teutonic Order. The former relic bust of St. Ursula in the church's choir dates back to the early 15th century. A carved head of John the Baptist above the sacristy door also dates back to the 15th century. During the redesign of the market square, archaeological excavations uncovered a burial ground from the 8th to 10th centuries and the cellar remains of high-ranking buildings from the 12th to 15th centuries. The site can be viewed from above through four "archaeological windows." The covered cellar area houses a permanent exhibition on the excavation findings and can be visited as part of a city tour. Windsheim craftsmen built the town hall between 1713 and 1717 under the Ansbach master mason Johann Michael Aspacher and his foreman Giovanni Rigaglia.
