4月 14, 2025, Sellthürner Käskuche
I prefer shopping in Sellthürn because it's quieter than in Immenthal. Combined with a tour from Kempten, it's simply perfect.

Sellthürn is a pleasantly quiet place to shop, and the bike path is beautiful. Tastes differ. I won't be shopping in Immenthal anymore, as it can take a long time due to the large crowds. That's why the simple, rustic seating area can be uncomfortable. It's next to the door with no physical separation from the store.

Nice moderate climb with little traffic from Günzach to Aitrang. Great way to bypass the main road between Günzach and Kraftisried 😎👌

On St. Mang Square, directly in front of the church of the same name, there is an Art Nouveau fountain from 1905: the St. Mang Fountain. The fountain, which is now a listed building, was created by Georg Wrba, one of the most important German sculptors of the 20th century, and is made of stone and bronze. At the center, under a protective canopy, is Saint Magnus of Füssen - Apostle of the Allgäu - and around him you can see an ibex, a doe, a stag and a unicorn. A young one sits enthroned on each of the animals. One of them has human feet, the other flippers, the next hooves and one bird's claws, which symbolizes the four elements. 8月 22, 2024, St.-Mang-Brücke Over the Iller in Kempten
Bridges at this location have been documented since at least the 14th century. It is certain that in 1340 the citizens had control of the medieval bridge and thus also collected the bridge toll. The bridge was the property of the Princely Abbey of Kempten, which gave the structure to the Imperial City of Kempten as a fief. The Imperial City was obliged to maintain the bridge and rebuild it after it was destroyed. The various wooden bridges represented an important long-distance route: They enabled trade relations with Kaufbeuren, Augsburg and Füssen, and also secured constant income for the Imperial City of Kempten. A flood on the Iller, which is common with mountain rivers, was an economic threat to the Imperial City. The flood often caused the structure supported by wooden pillars to collapse. In 1893 the five-span wooden Iller bridge was replaced by a single-span half-timbered arch bridge made of iron. The St. Mang Bridge was particularly important after the Second World War: At the end of the war, the German Wehrmacht gave the order to blow up all bridges as the Allies approached. The eastern parts of the King Ludwig Bridge, which was used for private transport, and the Upper Iller Bridge for rail traffic were blown up. The same order was given for the St. Mang Bridge, but citizens were able to prevent the demolition. After the Second World War, the St. Mang Bridge was the only bridge in Kempten that could be driven on for a short time. In 1952, it was replaced by a cantilever bridge, and the opening was attended by Mayor August Fischer and Prime Minister Wilhelm Hoegner. The construction was carried out by the now-defunct Alfred Kunz construction company. The bridge was necessary because the old steel structure was no longer sufficient for the growing traffic and, in particular, was too narrow to direct road traffic with one lane in each direction.
