One can only guess at what remains of the Klinzer Castle... old foundations provide a rough overview. The history of the castle and the Magic Linden Tree is described on iron plaques.

Very nice viewpoint into the Mölltal and along the Drau towards Villach. A curve further on there is a perfect rest area at the Marhube inn.

This palazzo is one of the most beautiful Renaissance buildings south of the Alps and is rightly the pride of the population. Commissioned by Gabriel of Salamanca and his descendants, Italian masters created a unique Renaissance work of art here. For a long time, the palace also served as the residence of the Princes of Porcia (1662-1918). The beauty of the three-storey arcade courtyard now forms a worthy setting for numerous cultural events of international renown (choir competitions, comedy plays).

From 1534 onwards, the castle was built on the orders of Count Gabriel of Salamanca-Ortenburg (1489–1539), the Spanish treasurer and confidant of Emperor Ferdinand I. Salamanca had acquired the county of Ortenburg from Ferdinand on 10 March 1524 and commissioned Italian architects to plan and build the castle. It was not completed until his successors, more than 60 years later, in 1597/98. The street façade and the inner courtyard with its columned architecture and three-storey arcades are more typical of an urban, Italian palazzo than of a castle in Carinthia. The castle gardens in their current size were laid out in the 19th century. The Salamanca family died out in 1620. The county of Ortenburg and with it the castle initially passed into the possession of the Widmann family. In 1662 they sold it to the Italian noble Porcia family from Pordenone.
