Unfortunately, the castle is now only accessible privately. It's a shame because it's beautiful. The castle tavern below is highly recommended for this 😋.

The high medieval castle is considered the best preserved Romanesque castle in Styria. Privately owned by the Gisslinger family since 1918 and unfortunately not open to the public.

It is worth making a detour here, although the castle is privately owned and you can only enter the interior of the castle as a hotel guest. However, there are guided tours at certain times, such as today (Corpus Christi) at 11 a.m.

The core of the castle goes back to a medieval defense tower and was expanded into a manor house in the 16th century under the barons of Königsberg. It was first mentioned in writing in 1591 under the name Künigsperghausen. A coat of arms of the Königsberg family bears the year 1626. The east wing with the arcades and the portico was added in the 18th century under the Batthyány counts, who owned the castle from 1644 to 1918. After that, the castle housed a farming school and a hotel. After extensive renovation work, a health academy was housed here in 2003. The castle used to have a spacious park with a pond and an attached nursery. The castle is currently used by the Burgenland Dental Association and the Burgenland University of Applied Sciences.
