10月 28, 2024, Steinerner Stadl
The Steinerne Stadl is a natural rock bridge that originates from a collapsed cave. This is also called a passage cave. Remains of stone tools and ceramics have been found inside the Steinerne Stadel and it is now assumed that this cave also served as a cult room from the Neolithic period to the Iron Age (and possibly later). Its proximity to the Hoffmannshöhle indicates a resonance/connection. In front of the cave you can find a free-standing stone with two deep, artificially created stone bowls. The position and arrangement of the bowls (at the top, in a free-standing stone, so very impractical for grinding grain - without protection from rainwater ...) and their shape give rise to mystical speculations about their use. The Eisenstein Cave, whose entrances are located at 380 m above sea level, is the most important thermal cave on the western edge of the southern Vienna Basin (Fischau Mountains). The 73 m deep and around 2 km long, shaft-like cave is located on a fracture zone parallel to the slope (thermal line) in young tertiary breccia (sausage marble). The thermal spring at the deepest point of the cave has a temperature of around 15.5 °C. Collapsed blocks and corrosion forms characterize the fissures richly decorated with coral and popcorn sinter. 10/02/2022 - Near the former Rauheneck Castle, which together with the Rauhenstein controlled the entrance to the picturesque Helenental near Baden, lies the bizarre royal cave, which was already inhabited in the Neolithic Age (2200 to 1800 BC). Archaeological excavations made such important finds that the entire period is called the "Baden culture". The presence of humans in the La Tène and Hallstatt periods has also been proven; individual finds date from Roman times and the Middle Ages. Just listing the scientific publications about the cave fills a whole book page. It is not surprising that there are many legends about the cave. King Bela IV of Hungary is said to have sought refuge there, and there are also reports of evil dwarves and wild people. Here and there, the royal cave still serves as a bivouac site, as some traces in the natural monument show.

10/02/2022 - Now in autumn towards the evening there is an unreal atmosphere in the cave, in the dull evening light, in the leafless forest, hardly any colors can be seen here. I enjoy it, take my time taking photos and then climb around the hole in the ceiling above the cave. Great insights and views are the reward.

By now it should be known that there is the best food there. It's not on the top of the mountain, but it's never far down into the valley afterwards :)

The Eisenstein Cave in Bad Fischau was discovered by a happy coincidence. There was actually a quarry here, but mining work in 1855 uncovered the entrance to the cave. Today the cave bears the name of the former owner of the quarry: Reichsritter Eissner von und zu Eisenstein.

Although the inn was closed that day, the toilet was open. There was also water and a drinks machine there. That saved us as our water supplies ran out on that hot day. THANKS!

Imposing cave, where a nice path leads past. Coming from the Rauheneck ruins, a hiking trail with a stony hairpin and rooty subsoil leads to the Helenental cycle path. There is always a lot of traffic here, hikers and climbers in the cave, so watch out 😏

Close to the former Rauheneck Castle, which together with the Rauhenstein controlled the entrance to the picturesque Helenental near Baden, lies the bizarre Königshöhle, which was inhabited as early as the Neolithic (2200 to 1800 BC). 📷 09/10/2018 - A small highlight that is well hidden from me personally can be found on the Malleitenberg, the Steinernen Stadl, which was used as an apartment for our ancestors back then. 😊👍👍
