According to the story, the Wörthersee Mandl appeared to the wildly revelers – one version of the story places the event on Christmas Eve – as a warning. But since they refused to convert, the Wörthersee Mandl opened a small barrel he had brought with him, from which endless, unstoppable masses of water flowed – creating today's Wörthersee and swallowing the then town.

The highlight is of course the parish and former collegiate church, which was first mentioned in a document in 894. In its current appearance, the late Gothic church with a Romanesque core served as a translation of the relics of the martyrs Primus and Felicianus. From the end of the 9th century it was the original parish and mission center of the diocese of Freising in Carinthia. Due to its romantic location on the lake, the church is one of the most popular confirmation and wedding churches in Carinthia.
