As idyllic as Carinthia's largest lake appears to the viewer from the slight hill, allowing one to enjoy the scenery, its origins are linked to a legend – one with a fatal outcome for the people of that time. A wealthy town is said to have once stood on the site of today's lake, but its inhabitants probably enjoyed a rather dissolute life. According to the story, the Wörthersee Mandl appeared to the wildly revelers – one version of the story places the event on Christmas Eve – as a warning. But since they refused to convert, the Wörthersee Mandl opened a small barrel he had brought with him, from which endless, unstoppable masses of water flowed – creating today's Wörthersee and swallowing the then town.

The pools around Lake Wörthersee and Lake Keutschacher are perfectly equipped for entire families. Starting with the little ones, there are high-quality and extensive covered children's playgrounds, slides and much more. The older ones can feel their increased adrenaline on a ride on the tubes. And the parents can enjoy their drink on one of the beautiful lake terraces, right in the pools. The whole family can also explore the lake from its most beautiful side: many pools have local water ski schools that offer tours around Lake Wörthersee!

The Wörthersee, occasionally also called Wörther See, is the largest lake in Carinthia and, due to its climatic location, one of the warmest Alpine lakes.
