The first lake on the 5-lake hike is not even signposted from the Pizolhütte, but it is worth a visit.

Wangser See, Pizol First lake on the famous 5-lake hike The Wangser See is the first lake on the famous 5-lake hike and can also be hiked from Laufböden, where it forms part of the 2-lake hike, which is particularly popular with families, together with the lower Vilterser Seeli. The Wangser See is beautifully nestled in a plateau, which always offers hikers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, both near and far. The Wangser See is also popular with fishermen; licenses are available at the valley stations of the Pizol cable cars. Wangsersee, Pizol at 2205 meters above sea level The Wangsersee is located in the St. Gallen communities of Bad Ragaz and Vilters-Wangs. The small mountain lake is not far from the mountain station of the Pizolbahnen or the Pizolhütte at an altitude of 2205 meters above sea level. The Valaisbach flows down the valley from the Wangsersee. On the shores of the lake you have a magnificent view of the mountains in the Pizol area. The Wangsersee is also the start or end point of the five-lake hike, which also passes the Wildsee, the Schottensee, the Schwarzsee and the Baschalvasee. The Wangsersee is one of the many crystal-clear and impressive mountain lakes in the Pizol. It is located not far from the Pizolhütte mountain restaurant, where you can enjoy excellent food.

A small, pretty hamlet with all the necessary amenities for a relaxing stay or as a starting point for numerous longer or shorter hikes.

Visit the Schwarzsee in Pizol! In addition to the beautiful lake circuit, there is also a game trail on the right, which later leads you to the main path. And if you dare, you can refresh yourself at a water temperature of just 2 degrees (At your own risk! -> Can lead to hypothermia! 🥶) Have fun discovering and enjoying 😁

Here, where the sky is reflected in the calm water, you can experience the magic of nature in its purest form. If you want, you can climb on the large, flat rock that is on the left before the descent to the lake and enjoy the most beautiful view the hiking trail has to offer.

The hamlet of Steg belongs to the municipality of Triesenberg (1300 m above sea level) Steg above Triesenberg in the Principality of Liechtenstein is, so to speak, the cross-country skiing center for the well-known holiday resort of Malbun. The former Maiensäss in the Walser settlement of Triesenberg also houses an idyllic mountain chapel. The hamlet of Steg at 1312 m above sea level. M.) is a holiday and hiking area in the Principality of Liechtenstein and belongs to the municipality of Triesenberg. Steg is located in the Sami Valley and was once a Maiensäss for the farmers of Triesenberg, a Walser settlement. The name “Steg” refers to the bridge that crosses the Samina here. Today Steg, about halfway between the village of Triesenberg and the holiday resort of Malbun, which is also part of the municipality, is the starting point in summer for many different hikes in idyllic landscapes, for example through the Valüna and Naaf valleys to the Pfälzer Hütte of the Liechtenstein Alpine Club. In winter, Steg is the starting point for the 15 km long cross-country ski trail into the idyllic Valüne Valley. Three kilometers of it can be illuminated as a night trail. And for sledding enthusiasts, there is a 1000m long natural toboggan run from Alp Stücka down to Steg. A small church in Steg was already shown on a map from 1721 and thus testifies to the importance of the religious life of the Walser people. In 1817 the chapel of St. Wendelin and Martin am Steg was either expanded or rebuilt. The current state of the idyllic mountain chapel dates back to 1906/07; The round bell tower also dates from this time. reservoir, jetty Stausee Steg Water is collected in the Valüna and dammed in the Steg reservoir. In addition, part of the Malbunbach is also discharged into the reservoir. The water is fed through a pressure line to the Samina plant in Vaduz, where electricity is produced. Water reservoir built in 1947–48 in the footbridge of the Samina works (1296 m above sea level; area: 3.2 ha; 100,000 m3 usable storage volume). The Steg reservoir is located on the Samina above the mouth of the Malbunbach and is additionally endowed with a maximum of 550 l/s from the Malbunbach. A maximum of 1.5 m3/s of water is fed through a pressure tunnel into the surge tank on Masescha (1270 m above sea level) and through a pressure line into the control center in Vaduz (457 m above sea level) and then via the Vaduz Giessen in fed into the internal canal. A sediment trap (Gänglisee) is located in front of the Steg reservoir to reduce the supply of sediment. Due to regular emptying of the reservoir (removal of fine sediments, checking of the bottom outlet), no permanent animal and plant communities can form in the Steg reservoir. Fishing is possible through the management of the Liechtenstein Fishing Association. Text: Gertrud Haidvogl www.historisches-lexikon.li/Stausee_Steg

Unfortunately, the Pizol Glacier is now over, it's frightening how quickly it has retreated.

The Schwarzsee is effectively almost jet black, in stark contrast to the other, more green lakes. When the water is calm (without wind), it makes for great photos with mountain reflections. It's especially impressive when covered in light snow.
