The start of the via ferrata can be reached from Holzgau in about half an hour. It is divided into three routes of varying difficulty levels, which can be easily combined with one another: the chamois (B/C), the ibex (C+) and the eagle route (D/E). A highlight is certainly the crossing of the roaring Simms waterfall using a total of three rope bridges. A via ferrata experience that is absolutely recommended!👌

The path continues to wind uphill and after a right turn it goes steeply up over rocks. You have reached the gorge, a deep rock cut that the Gemstelbach has dug here over the years. To the right of the gorge, the path continues uphill, secured with a rope. The view down into the gorge is breathtaking. Deep down in the gorge you can hear the rushing of the Gemstelbach and in front of you you can see the waterfalls at the end of the valley in front of the Koblat massif.

A somewhat wilder section, you should not be afraid of heights.

What this highlight means is the Simms Waterfall. It can be reached through the right side of the valley via a good gravel path towards Rossgumpenalm/Café Uta, so you can observe the waterfall from close up. It was created artificially in the 19th century by the Englishman Frederic Simms through blasting. The waterfall is about 30 m high and is fed by the Höhenbach. There are many hikers on the route, most of whom want to go to the Holzgau suspension bridge.

A nice place for climbers.

Depending on the weather, the short walk through the gorge to the waterfall can be very slippery.

One of several beautiful rest stops in Gemsteltal. The Alpe offers delicious food and homemade cakes.

The Gemstelklamm is not directly accessible, you can see it easily from the hiking trail.
