This Renaissance building has dominated the valley's landscape since 1627 and was built by General Peter Stein, the lord of the miners and miners in the Christophstal Valley, as a retirement home. It is one of the few remaining buildings to have survived the great city fires of 1632 and 1945, and the only stepped-gabled house in Freudenstadt. From the Bärenschlössle, there is a magnificent panoramic view up to Freudenstadt. Directly behind it is a red deer enclosure. Beautiful and very large medieval castle ruins – clearly visible from afar as a landmark above the town of Nagold. Accessible via various hiking trails through the forest surrounding the Schlossberg. Great views of the Heckengäu, the Black Forest, and, in good weather, even the Swabian Alb. Served on weekends in the summer. Regular events are also held.

Superbly maintained. Unfortunately, the public can only admire it from the outside.

Unfortunately the castle is not open to the public (forest school)

A little hard to find, and unfortunately a little neglected. Very manageable. But still OK as part of the attraction on the Four Castles Trail.
