West Mountain peak offers 4 spectacular viewpoints. From the first vista, sights like Bear Mountain and the parking area below unfold. Continue along the ridge where the trail squeezes through a rock crevice, opening up to even more stunning panoramas.

Doodletown was a small village in the mountain, that was used as a crossroads during the Revolutionary War. At it's peak, the village had 350 residents. Due to several factors, residents began to move away and the town was completely deserted by the late 1960s. Today, many foundations, walls, and staircases are still visible from the trails and old roads that run through the town. There are plaques placed near the main structures in the town to explain the old buildings' value.

Nice small lake in Bear mountain state park. In the summer you can rent a paddle boat and fishing is allowed in season

The unobstructed 360 views are worth the extra 70 feet up the tower when it's open

Great place to have a picnic or just walk along the banks of the lake.

First come-first serve for this shelter. Plenty of space nearby to pitch a tent of hang a hammock if the shelter is full. Make sure to head over to the shelter as the sun sets for a great view of the New York City skyline glowing in the falling darkness.
