🏰 Kunibertsburg Castle (often also called Rosenburg) is a picturesque castle ruin perched in the vineyards above Zeltingen-Rachtig. It is closely linked to the history of the town as an enclave of the Electorate of Cologne. The castle is considered the only hillside castle on the Moselle River, as it was built on a steep slope rather than on a hilltop, unlike most other castles in the region.

Zeltingen Castle, also known as Kunibertsburg or Rosenburg, is a medieval hilltop castle dating from the 12th to 13th centuries and is located southeast of the town limits of Zeltingen amidst the steep Moselle vineyards. Originally serving as a fortified customs post to control shipping, it is considered the birthplace of St. Cunibert, Archbishop of Zeltingen. Today, the ruins are freely accessible and offer impressive views of the Moselle River and the surrounding vineyards. It is a popular stop for hikers and cyclists on the Maare-Mosel Cycle Path.

The castle ruins don't look very big from the bike path. But appearances are deceptive.

The best view is from the cycle path along the Moselle.

Föhren Castle dates back to the 14th century and was last rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1663. The castle complex includes the tithe barn that has been converted and restored into an event space, the actual main building, in whose large hall the registry office is located, and the outbuilding that has been converted into a holiday apartment. Interesting castle ruins, the full dimensions of which can hardly be seen from the bike path. A great photo opportunity in the vineyards above the cycle path.

According to legend, Saint Kunibert (623-663) was born at the Zeltiger Rosenburg. Since Kunibert bequeathed the castle and all of his father's possessions to the Archbishop of Cologne, the place belonged to the Electorate of Cologne. You cannot enter the ruins of the only hilltop castle on the Moselle at the moment, you have the best view from the cycle path on the Moselle.

The walnut trees are privately owned. Anyone who finds what they are looking for here is stealing!
