The Wanfrieder Schlagd (also Wanfrieder Hafen and Historischer Hafen Wanfried) is located on the Werra in the northern Hessian town of Wanfried in the Werra-Meißner district. The listed complex consists of the former stacking area of the Wanfried harbor with a quay wall, iron rings for mooring ships, and a preserved remnant of the city wall.

Wonderful, this natural landscape, bravo!

This is certainly one of the most beautiful vantage points in the area. In the foreground is the horseshoe-shaped Werra loop and behind it the Hessian mountains build up. On the right you can see Ludwigstein Castle, opposite is the Kaufunger Forest and on the left is the Hohe Meissner.

From the Teufelskanzel you have a great view of the Werra valley. According to legend, the red sandstone rock got there because the devil made a bet with the witches. He wanted to carry the rock from the Brocken to the Meißner without putting it down once. But that was too tedious for him and so he paused on the Höhenberg and was caught by the witches. He then got very angry and left without paying any more attention to the rock.

For me, the Werra Valley is one of the most beautiful bike paths. Narrow valley, wonderful wooded mountains, lakes, castles and great food when you stop for refreshments from Hannmünden to Eisenach. Multi-day tour with a detour to the adjoining beautiful North Hessian BZW. Eichsfeldischen U Thuringian half-timbered towns and villages is recommended!

The section is easy to drive, there are also rest stops

Nice place with a worth seeing old town. Next time we would plan more time here (preferably with an overnight stay) to visit.
