The Neuhewen is the highest volcanic cone in the Hegau (from the Celtic "hewen" = cone). Preserved: keep, remains of walls. Built in the middle of the 13th century for the Lords of Engen (Hewen). Mentioned in 1303-1308. Destroyed by Bavarian troops in 1639 during the Thirty Years' War. Repair work carried out in 1952 and 1962. Surrounded by a fence and not accessible. The short climb is definitely worth it. There are several ways to get up. All of them go through loose beech forests and also with sunny sections along the edge of the forest.

The ascent to the Buchberg summit is a bit strenuous but definitely worth it. Fantastic vision, in clear weather up to the Alps.

We children were always told that a tunnel led from the lupf (in the Middle Ages) to the carp, but I never found out whether this story was true. The tunnel entrance would probably be under the stairs.
