Originally a Celtic refuge, then the Romans arrived, and in the 12th century, a castle was built. It came into the possession of the Electorate of the Palatinate around 1300 and was then intended as a refuge for the ruler and his entourage from Heidelberg in case of emergency. The people of Dilsberger were granted town-like rights and, in return, were obliged to provide accommodations in case of emergency. With the dissolution of the Electorate of the Palatinate in 1803, the castle came into the possession of the state of Baden. In 1822, the castle was approved for demolition. Was open today and a stunning view. But even if I'm not afraid of heights... that's really high and wobbles quite a bit. Despite almost zero wind and I alone up there. But the view... WOW! 👍

The Dilsberg Castle Fortress is known for its fantastic panoramic view of the Neckar Valley and the Odenwald. Another highlight of the castle festivals is a bit lower - in the accessible underground well tunnel. Should be reopened from March 26th, 2021

almost 90 steps up (hopefully without oncoming traffic) and you have a great all-round view👍

The semicircular shield wall and the towering keep in the main castle are characteristic of the castle festivals. They illustrate their function as a weir system. From the Palas, the residential building, only the basement has been preserved, which was used in a variety of ways.
