フライベルク湖は海抜930メートルに位置しています。約16ヘクタールの水面を持つ、アルゴイ地方で最も大きな高山湖です。フライベルク湖には目に見える流入・流出がありません。周期的に変動する水位は、地下の流入・流出によって調整されています。この湖は氷河期に形成され、当時のスティラック氷河の氷塊が現在の場所の700〜800メートル上にそびえ立っていました。

The lake can be reached from the Höfatsblick station of the Nebelhornbahn via the Zeigersattel in about 1 hour. In order to continue hiking over the Laufbacher Eck, the short climb to the Zeigersattel must be conquered again. Alternatively, there is the descent via the so-called glide path down to the Oytalhaus. There are some wire rope safety devices attached here. The descent as well as the path over the Laufbacher Eck requires absolute surefootedness, a head for heights and the necessary footwear (ankle-high mountain boots with good tread soles).
