Really always a highlight and a must in the Bavarian Forest. But BEWARE in winter. It can be very slippery and icy so good footwear and I would recommend taking gear with you to be on the safe side. Have fun

The crack hole near Bodenmais has been a nature reserve since 1939. The 32.9 hectare area is a special natural experience and is one of the highlights in the Arber region. In the Rißloch, the Arberbach, Schwellbach, Kleinhüttenbach and Wildauerbach unite to form the Rißbach. The streams cascade down the Rissloch Gorge in five sliding main stages. The natural spectacle is particularly impressive during heavy rain or after the snow has melted.

The two radar towers have been the landmark of the Grosser Arber for over 30 years. The radar towers on the Grosser Arber have long since become a real landmark of the highest mountain in the Bavarian Forest. In the summer, the highest construction site in the Bavarian Forest is to be set up there: the dome on the main tower is to be renovated. The Federal Ministry of Defense is investing around 2.2 million euros in this "construction project for national defense" so that in the future the airspace within a 450-kilometer radius from Berlin to Venice can be monitored from the Arber.

The hike to the Riesloch Gorge near Bodenmais is one of the most beautiful and impressive hikes in the Bavarian Forest. The 200 m high waterfalls are considered to be the highest in the entire Bavarian Forest. This natural spectacle, surrounded by unspoilt mixed forests, should not be missed.
