From the cycle path, you can see the old Saar barges. These were built between the two world wars. They were previously pulled by hand on the canals and rivers; they were said to be towed (hence the name towpaths), now rehabilitated as cycle paths.

The Völklinger Hütte, located in Saarland, is an outstanding industrial monument and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. It is the world's only completely preserved ironworks from the heyday of industrialization and offers a unique insight into the history of iron and steel production. Its significant role as a symbol of the industrial revolution and structural change makes it an important cultural and historical heritage in Europe.
