ヴィクラート城はメンヒェングラートバッハの南西に位置し、19ヘクタールの広大な公園に囲まれています。この場所は、ニース川の低湿地の中という美しいロケーションだけでなく、伯爵の王冠の形をした城公園もラインラントで最も特異な創造物の一つとして、並外れた価値を持っています。

The underground fortress served for storage and defense in the 16th century. One casemate is accessible, provides a lot of information and shows the infantry defense.

The casemates – underground defense structures within the ramparts – have been accessible since the late 1990s and are used for exhibition purposes.

In the Middle Ages, castles were usually protected by ditches, walls and high towers with small viewing windows. The rapid development of firearms in the Renaissance, which could be used to shoot over long distances, brought with it new security techniques and designs. Rheydt Castle is no exception in this respect: the fortifications in which cannonballs and firearms could be stored and used were housed in the forward bastions. CYCLE TOUR WICKRATHER SCHLOSSTEICH The journey is the destination, and so 17 cyclists enjoyed a lovely day in Mönchengladbach's surroundings in what was at times a strong wind. The start was at 10:00 a.m. from the car park at Rheydt Castle. The route leads through the Volksgarten, the Neersbroicher Busch and the Hoppbruch to Haus Horst, from there past Steinhausen, Liedberg and Dyck Castle to Aldenhoven. Past the Jüchener Bach, we then went via Gierath and Jüchen to the edge of the open-cast lignite mine with a view into the big hole. Here we were showered heavily by the sprinklers that are supposed to bind the dust to protect the motorway. Shortly afterwards we reached the Wildenrath manor in Wanlo for a rest and refreshment. The route then went back along the Niers via Wickrath Castle, Beller Park and Zoppenbroich to Rheydt Castle.
