Papirøen, officially called Christiansholm, is transforming from a former industrial area in Copenhagen's inner harbor into a vibrant new urban district. The newly developed island is centrally located opposite the Drama Theatre and the Opera House and is currently undergoing redevelopment: the old paper warehouses are being replaced by a mix of apartments, cultural venues, grocery stores, and recreational spaces. Denmark's most expensive apartment is also located here.

The interior of the fort cannot be visited, but the circular route around the fortifications is freely accessible during the day from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
