5月 10, 2025, Lochnagar Crater
The Cratère de Lochnagar, an impressive war memorial, was created by a huge mine blown up by the British Royal Engineers on 1 July 1916, as part of the Battle of the Somme. The explosion marked the beginning of the battle and left a crater 90 metres in diameter and 25 metres deep. Interestingly, the crater was named after Lochnagar Street, the trench from which the tunnel was dug. The crater is now a preserved site of remembrance and a religious service is held there every year on 1 July in memory of those who died.

4月 19, 2025, Cimetière militaire Adanac 1° guerre mondiale
The cemetery's name, "Adanac," was formed by reversing the letters of "Canada" to honor the 1,078 Canadians buried there. There are now 3,187 Commonwealth and First World War commemorative graves in this cemetery, of which 1,709 are unidentified: 1,989 British, 1,074 Canadian, 70 New Zealand, 56 Australian, and 1 German. The village of Miraumont was occupied by British troops on February 24 and 25, 1917, following the German withdrawal to the Hindenburg Line. The village, recaptured by the Germans on March 25, 1918, was finally captured by the 42nd (East Lancashire) Division on August 24.

An impressive example of the power of destruction: 100 years later, you still stand at this crater and can't imagine what really happened here. Well documented and can also be visited by groups, the area has space for stay and exchange.

Crucifix Corner marks the spot where a destroyed crucifix gave its name to the nearby cemetery of the fierce fighting of the Battle of Villers-Bretonneux, April 24-26, 1918, where Australians, British and French stopped the German advance on Amiens. You can explore the graves of 660 Commonwealth soldiers, as well as 141 French and two Russians. The cemetery was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, a famous architect who also created the Thiepval Memorial and the Cenotaph in London.

9月 19, 2022, Lochnagar Crater
The Lochnagar crater was named by the British in reference to the "Lochnagar Trenches" behind it, which were named after the Scottish mountain Lochnagar. From these, the tunnel was dug at a depth of about 16 meters under the German position "Schwabenhöhe", which was held by the Reserve Infantry Regiment 110 of the 28th Reserve Division (Baden). The 185th Tunneling Company had begun tunneling work on November 11, 1915. In March 1916, the 179th Tunneling Company took over and completed the tunnel. 26.8 tons of ammonal explosives were placed in two chambers connected by Y-shaped corridors. The Lochnagar mine blast is believed to be the largest human warfare explosion to date.

The South African National Memorial at Delville Wood is a First World War memorial located on the territory of the municipality of Longueval, in the Somme department. It commemorates the engagement of South African troops during the Great War. A commemorative museum traces the history of South Africa's participation in World War I, World War II and the various conflicts of the Cold War. The British Military Cemetery at Delville Wood is located opposite the memorial. Delville Wood represents, for South Africans, the place where South African Union soldiers were first engaged on the Western Front. On July 14, 1916, the South African brigade, made up of four battalions, about 3,150 men, had been ordered to hold its positions "at all costs". Under the incessant fire of the enemy artillery, they had resisted and known a true hell (Delville wood will be renamed Devil wood, the wood of the Devil). When they were relieved on July 20, they left 1,080 of theirs, killed or missing, and 1,735 wounded. Wikipedia
