Parts of Wentwood Forest are a conifer plantation, planted as far back as the 1700s and providing a resource that is still harvested today. Large areas of the forest have been re-planted with native broadleaved trees so it is gradually returning to it’s original state.

Nice view over the Celtic Manor and beyond. Great road, and pretty much deserted all the way from Usk, only appears to be used by locals. Great for cycling with a generally good surface (although a few sections are pot-holed)

So many great tracks, bridleways and gravel roads around here, get exploring!

Probably not the most conventional way to climb into Wentwood Forest, but a pretty fun one. Cross the stream at the bottom (there's a small plinth across if you don't want to get your feet wet) and then take the track which turns into a series of huge steps made by old railway sleepers. After the little gate, it's rockier and pretty rideable until you meet a proper gravel road at the top.

Wide and easy forestry trails winding up through Wentwood, some ongoing forestry work so take care with debris etc. Perfect place for some gravel riding, but beware of the puddles in the winter!
