The River North Esk can be viewed from the B966 bridge. It's worth stopping just east of the bridge and going through the blue door in the wall. From here you can get down into the river gorge or walk along the bank higher up.

Lovely quiet road that passes through Paldyfair Wood

If you plan on heading North over the Cairn o Mount and further inland this is the last refuse stop for supplies for a while with some exposed and very steep paved terrain and even more ascent off road. If heading South from the Cairn O Mount descent the Clattering Brig is the last supply stop before Laurencekirk with railway access, and Fettercairn.

Follow the R. Esk from Edzell, all the way past Dalbog, Auchmull, Tarfside, Auchronie to Loch Lee. It is a nice gentle climb, only rising to 250m.
