The Formartine and Buchan railway line connects Dyce in Aberdeen to Fraserburgh and Peterhead. It's a popular path with cyclists, joggers, dog walkers, horse riders etc. Some sections are nice and wide, while others are more single track. There are a number of gates on the route, which are quite narrow. The path is slowly being improved in sections to facilitate better access.

Haddo House has a large country park, ideal for countryside running. Many trails through the woodland and around the loch. For a good measure, the run from the house to the Urn at the end of the Scots mile is... one mile so easy to calculate.

Interesting ruin owned by the Haddo Estate. It is fenced off, although that may be more to keep the cows out. Didn't see any cows in the field, but there was evidence they were there.

A pleasant view along the path from the car park to Gight castle.

Parking just a short walk away from the castle. The castle sits in a field so there may be cattle at certain times of the year. A small loop down to the Ythan river is a fine addition to walking to the castle and makes a good outing last a little longer.

A disused rail way line now converted to a cycle track. Mostly good gravel surface with the odd overgrown or rough section.

Lovely ruin. Note that it is in a field, so there might be cows.

Walking from Methlick this is a useful bridge to cross over and follow the path up to Gight Castle.

This is a free museum with permanent and seasonal exhibits. On display are stone age tools, including a sword, excavated from a nearby stone circle. The center is open 1-4.30pm Thursday through Sunday from 5th April to 28th October, 2018. Their website is www.tarvesheritage.org.uk
