A very popular pub in Aviemore. At weekends and during holidays book several days ahead for dinner. Large outdoor area if the weather is good. Great food and drinks.

The pass itself isn't particularly strenuous, but it's very open and can get very windy. The cycle path is also a patchwork of different roads.

A super cool small suspension bridge with great views down over the river and surrounding countryside. An idyllic location for a stop on the bike.

This old road is now closed to motorized traffic, creating a quiet and wide cycle path on the south side of the Cairngorms. It's part of National Cycle Route 7, as well as the Cairngorms Loop. We cycled steadily downhill from west to east, allowing us to cycle smoothly towards Blair Athol.

A bouncy bridge, sans gates, that's part of the national cycle route. An interesting waypoint just because it's a bit different.

Alas, entry to the roads immediately surrounding the castle requires payment on entry.

Free car parking and many tracks and paths suitable for different bike types. A useful start and finish point. Oh, and it's scenic as well.

Coffee and cake. Inside and outside seating. Good service. Bike racks.

Really nice route, a few of the uphills have pretty chunky gravel but I managed on a fully loaded gravel bike

Located on the banks of River Spey. Lots of outdoor seating by the river.

Super smooth downhill glide on excellent asphalt from the Pass of Drumochter to Dalwhinnie. Watch out for the many bridges and occasional sharpish zig-zag when zooming along.

Blair Castle (in Scottish Gaelic: Caisteil Bhlàir) stands in its grounds near the village of Blair Atholl in Perthshire in Scotland. It is the ancestral home of the Clan Murray, and was historically the seat of their chief, the Duke of Atholl, though the current (12th) Duke, Bruce Murray, lives in South Africa. The castle stands in Glen Garry, and commands a strategic position on the main route (now the A9 road) through the central Scottish Highlands.

A wee hamlet with a nice pub. Access through the hamlet to Pitlochry Dam and the fish ladder or over the bouncy bridge into Pitlochry proper. The bouncy bridge is a designated cycleway.

Good mix of surfaces and amazing views over the pass. BUT, if descending the north side towards Dalwhinne be away of inopportune bollards in the middle of the trail, sometimes on otherwise fast parts of the descent
