The Illinois Prairie Path and Grand Illinois Trail overlap here. Both long-distance trails are built primarily from crushed limestone dust, although they also go through stretches of concrete and asphalt surfacing. This stretch of trail passes through a greenbelt in the center of town, and also passes close to several parks that can be accessed with just a little road riding.

This small lake has a path encircling it and is easily accessed via Fullerton Avenue. It connected to other lakes and nature preserves via the Salt Creek Greenway.

Eastern trailhead for the Night Heron Trail, an almost 3-mile loop trail that takes you through the Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve. The trailhead had picnic tables, parking, and restrooms.

​Memorial Park is located just north of downtown Wheaton. It was constructed in 1921 and is the city's oldest park. In 2020, it got a renovation, and now the state-of-the-art bandshell, a Veterans Memorial, and the Lions Terrace are in tip-top shape. It is lively all summer with events like the Summer Entertainment Series, Cream of Wheaton, Shakespeare in the Park, and HOPtober Fest. The facilities are clean, and this little park is a great place to stop.

Almost as if it's a rare hidden gem of trial. Be sure to know or download the bike trail. As you ride, there are times, you are unsure where to go. Having a downloaded trail GPS helped tremendously.

The Main Stem of the Illinois Prairie Path Trail is located just south of the library. It connects to the IPP-Aurora Branch and the IPP- Elgin Branch. From here it is a 54 mile bicycle ride to Aurora to Elgin and back on the IPP branches and the Fox River Trail.

This is a great place to start a bicycle ride or walk around Wheaton. There are restrooms, water fountains, and a coffee shop in the library.
