One could say that the two landmarks of Wuppertal are combined. More rustic charm than a real highlight, but some people will certainly enjoy the view.

Very idyllic

The large red seat ring is a donation from the former Schaeffler plant nearby (formerly FAG Kugelfischer). It consists of the outer ring of a double-row tapered roller bearing for a 5 MW offshore wind turbine. The outer ring is made of case-hardened steel and was sawn open in the hardening shop as a sample in order to be able to measure the edge hardening depth and microstructure under the raceway surfaces on the original part. This was done very rarely, because normally straight test pieces with the same cross-section are also hardened, on which the edge hardening depths are documented. But even these test pieces have to be compared with an original part from time to time, because the rolling bearing ring is hardened in a large steel device so that its dimensional and shape quality does not lose too much due to hardening distortion, and this is an influence that the straight test piece does not experience. By the way: The material and processing value of this outer ring is on the order of magnitude of the entire fitness facility.
