Nothing much to see from your bike.

Founded in 1107 by William d'Aubigny, the butler to King Henry I, Wymondham Abbey was once a thriving monastery. However, it was closed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII, with the abbey officially surrendered to the crown in 1538. Today, the building serves as an Anglican parish church.

4km long road through the heart of Thorpe Woodlands. Includes a 2.5km and a 1.25km straight, linked by a gentle curve, that are wide with a fairly even surface and sheltered from the wind by the trees: perfect for an interval session or a fast pace line.

The approach from the A1066 to the south offers a short but fast descent (max 7%) to the River Thet, a rarity in this part of the world. Watch out for the off-camber 90 degree left turn at the bottom, with a large pot hole in the middle, which can easily catch you out.

Scenic setting, tucked against the woods. Access is down a unmade track if you want a closer view so only suitable on road tyres in good weather.

Interesting round tower church. Worth a visit.

Road goes through a nice avenue of trees near the junction with Slopers Road.

Has that curious thing of being impressively intact at one end but partially ruined at the other. Very grand for a parish church!

Just a signal box and a level crossing over the single track line. Not a busy line so the crossing is rarely closed!

Nice scenic place to pass by rather than a place to stop, a little room at the side of the road but mostly fenced off.

An odd-looking ruin, the the tower now standing separate from the nave after the middle part of the church collapsed.

Accidentally burned down in the 1700s and there wasn’t the money or the population to justify rebuilding it so for 300 years since the church has been left as a picturesque ruin.

Tucked away behind buildings and a high fence so relatively easy to miss despite its size if you’re coming from Buckenham.

Great location for a quick refreshment break or a full lunch stop. Outdoor tables if it’s dry.

Nice cafe with outdoor seating at the front overlooking the village green.

The trees meet overhead creating a pleasant green tunnel to ride down.

Wymondham Abbey is the southern terminus of the Mid-Norfolk Railway Heritage line. There aren't any facilities here. The signal box at the junction with the Breckland line is about 1km down the line to the South.
