Eskdale Mill is a historic watermill dating back to the 16th century, making it one of the oldest working watermills in the Lake District. The mill has now been restored and is a popular visitor attraction showcasing the traditional milling techniques and workings of a watermill.

They have undercover seating too 🙂

A small shop but so much tasty food, great for bikepacking supplies.

Not a great path up or down but awesome views and feels quite wild coming over from Wastwater.

Great brideway, lovely views at the top then in May amazing bluebells lower down.

Known locally as La’al Ratty, The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is a narrow gauge steam railway linking the coastal village of Ravenglass to the Lake District National Park. La’al Ratty is 'Little Railway' in the local Cumbrian dialect. A bridleway runs alongside the tracks so if you are lucky you might see, smell and hear a train chug by. This makes it an especially good place to bring young bikers who will no doubt love the spectacle and easy going terrain. A popular MTB route is to catch La’al Ratty from Ravenglass to Dalegarth and ride back along the Eskdale Trail.

To the west of the cute packhorse bridge over the River Esk is an excellent wild swimming spot. It is not recommended to jump from the rocks or the bridge as the water levels can change. Ease yourself in more gently for a refreshing dip.

Really beautiful tarn. Dont expect amazing trail but its a stunning spot.

Pass by Burnmoor Tarn on one of the many tracks across Eskdale Moor. This unassuming tarn is one of the largest completely natural tarns in the Lakes, which flows into the River Esk. You can find the former fishing lodge of Burnmoor Lodge nearby on the southern shore. Believe it or not, the tarn has a maximum depth of 43 feet (13 m).
